HTML images do not appear in Notes client with proxy authentication activated

Technote Number: 1087080

Problem:
This issue was reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# JMER4WLJMB and was
addressed in Notes 5.0.10, and indirectly fixed in Notes 6.0.4 and 6.5.2.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 5.0.10 MR fix list (available
at http://www.notes.net):

Mail Client

SPR# JMER4WLJMB - When using an authenticated proxy, users will now be prompted
for userid and password when HTML-based email contains graphic images.

The problem is that the client cannot present the login screen to the end user
within a mail message using the Notes browser. The Notes browser is used to
render HTML and access images in mail messages. Since the client cannot
present the login screen, the user is unable to authenticate and is denied
access. Therefore, the images cannot be obtained from the Web site referred to
in the HTML.

To verify this problem, edit the Location document and indicate Notes on the
Internet browser tab. Access a URL through the Open URL icon at the upper right
of the Notes client. The Notes browser itself will present the login screen.
By logging in here, you are establishing a session to the Internet. Open the
same problem message and the images should render. If this properly renders the
images, you have verified that this is the problem.
